Cleaning the PLAATO Pro, CIP and Chemical Compatibility

Proper cleaning of your PLAATO Pro helps maintain accurate fermentation data and ensures long-term reliability.

CIP Compatibility

The PLAATO Pro is fully CIP (Clean-In-Place) compatible and can remain installed during standard CIP cycles for your fermentation vessel.

If you prefer to remove the device and clean it by hand, follow the instructions below.

When to Clean

Clean the PLAATO Pro after each fermentation, once the vessel has been emptied.

Note: Cleaning removes visible residue and buildup. Sanitizing may be performed as part of your normal CIP or sanitation process, but is not a replacement for proper cleaning.

Hand-Cleaning Instructions

What you’ll need

  • Warm water

  • Soft cloth or sponge

  • Mild, brewery-safe cleaner

Steps

  1. Remove the PLAATO Pro
Carefully detach the device from the fermentation vessel.

  2. Rinse
Rinse any parts exposed to beer or krausen using warm water. Do not use hot water.

  3. Clean Gently
Wipe with a soft cloth or sponge.

  4. Air Dry

Important Handling Notes

  • Do not submerge the electronics housing in water or cleaning solution.

  • Avoid chlorine-based cleaning chemicals!

These recommendations are based on typical durations and temperatures in CIP processes.

  • Caustic Cleaners:
    Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH, <5 %w/w concentration, <80 °C)
    Potassium Hydroxide (KOH, <5 %w/w concentration, <80 °C)

  • Non-caustic Cleaners:
    Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3, <2 %w/w concentration, <80 °C)
    Sodium Metasilicate (Na2SiO3, <2 %w/w concentration, <80 °C)

  • Acid Cleaners:
    Nitric acid (HNO3, <5 %w/w concentration, <70 °C).

  • Disinfectants/Sterilizers:
Peracetic acid (Peroxyacetic acid, briefly at ambient temperatures). Phosphoric acid (H3PO4) is not recommended.
